It is sad that you have chosen a "retirement" trip rather than a challenging one. You can always do round the UK trip with or w/o kids, when you are older, on a vacation from work (a long vacation but still). The UK coast is well suited for elder sailors with many options for dinner and accomodation. It is civilised and that is why it is not so interesting. It is also your home country and it is not going anywhere. It would be great to see Florence and both of you against real challenge. There is one more option that is both spectacular and does not require rigorous planning - that is the northern Atlantic crossing to Greenland. I'm just an internet onlooker, but I've seen it done by absolute amateurs. Then you can go to Canada through the Northern Passage while it is still open from the ice. And then you can go back across the Atlantic. That would be a real adventure with two more Atlantic crossings under your belt. Also the UK should be relatively easy to stock up on provisions for this trip.

Fantastic to see you both out and on another voyage, and what better than doing an around-the-British-Isles trip as a shakedown to next years arctic challenge? I'm looking forward to seeing every episode that you put out on this season's trip, cheers! PS: Your filming skills have been honed over the years to become truly epic. You could start an evergreen 'How To Create Amazing Short Films' course, and I'd be the first to sign up. Amongst other things I'd love to learn, is how you launch and retrieve the drone while rocking along in full sail! lol I've always thought of rigging up a 'drone catching net' (but where, on a cluttered monohull?) and have the drone fly right into it, but I'm sure you have a more elegant technique.

I've actually been rewatching old episodes sequentially from before I came across your channel. SUPERB repository of useful knowledge. I particularly appreciate the budgeting, preventative maintenance and planning top tips one can glean from your videos. I had a "trust fund" similar to the one you describe having in that it was an ephemeral one derived from memories of special places and austere environments that took effort and care to reach, rather than dynastic financial wealth. I grew up in the north cascades and my first job was as a mule packer and hunter's guide, I got to see a kaleidoscope of landscapes while running pack strings, I didn't even realize how little I was being paid til I started tending bar and doing woodworking and made "real" money. The notion of a "vacation" has never entered my thinking.

I’m in Oz and loved the view of the White Cliffs from the sea . You have a fabulous sailing channel and I really enjoy being part of your travels. Your photography is wonderful, narratives are quick and to the point and blended splendidly into the story. My only disappointment is you never did much around Oz, especially the Kimberley. Maybe another day. Looking forward to being taken around the UK.

Hey guys! So many great things to say about this vid...as usual. First is, super stoked for how the refit has worked out for you. It looks like a very good "job well done"! Your cinematography is as usual quite interesting, with great subject matter B-roll, and clear, well thought out arrangement/editing. But mostly, I'm really stoked for your change of plans! I think it's going to be very cool to cruise with you guys around the British Isles. I'm sure the Arctic will be great too, but for me I think this will be more moving. Thanks

Yeah it must be a bummer getting insurance to sail in the Artic especially for boats of a certain age. Even though they were better made back then. Funny how the last thing to arrive for a sailboat were the sails. Every time I look at the toe rail I think of what it took. Enjoy the pubs and fish and chips :)
